Matthew Focht grew up being controlled and crippled by fear. The feeling of embarrassment, shame, and failure were enough to confine Matthew to mediocrity for much of his life. Although Matthew was recognized for his artistic abilities in school, the thought of actually pursuing art and actually inspiring people with his gifts not only seemed like a long shot but more of an impossibility. 

Despite lacking self confidence, Matthew’s dreams proved to be bigger than his fears. Ambitions of freedom to travel the world, learning from masters of their trade and how to truly encourage others, overcame his natural tendencies to close off the world and hide behind a shell of a person. 

While Matthew’s professional and private life may not be the open book we have become accustomed to in today’s fast-paced social environment, his work has proven to be able to stand on its own. Bold or subtle, invigorating or calming, Matthew Focht is compelled to move people with his original paintings. 

Eventually conquering many of his fears, Matthew was able a achieve that freedom he sought. In fact, he credits many of his influences from the artists he studied on all 7 continents and in all 50 states. While cultures, art, and cuisine varied, Matthew realized that most people are dealing with varying degrees of exactly what he spent so much time overcoming. Too many people are living the life expected of them by family, friends, and society.
